With football season over and men’s basketball sitting out March Madness, do you need something to do on the weekends? Don’t fret; there are tons of new movies about to hit the big screen. Here’s a list of five upcoming movies that should put some excitement back into your March weekend plans.
1. “Zootopia” (March 4)
Let’s be honest; whether it’s “Toy Story” or “Frozen,” college students definitely still watch Disney movies. This new film will be no exception. It is set in a modern city, but here’s the twist: the citizens are all animals. A small rabbit decides she wants to be the first bunny on the police force, so she tries to crack a case to prove herself to the others.
2. “London Has Fallen” (March 4)
“London Has Fallen” is a sequel to “Olympus Has Fallen,” which came out in early 2013. The film has some big-time actors like Morgan Freeman. The President (Aaron Eckhart) and his Secret Service agent (Gerard Butler) are trying to stop a terrorist group from attacking the British prime minister’s funeral. This movie will be action-packed and should keep the audience’s attention all the way through.
3. “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” (March 18)
Allegiant is the third installment in the popular series. After the ending of the second film, “Insurgent,” everyone will want to catch this one. The main characters leave the only city they’ve ever known to find a solution to their deranged city. They will be faced with some impossible choices throughout to keep up the suspense. It’s a must see for any “Divergent” fans.
4. “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” (March 25)
This may be one of the biggest movies of the month. Batman (Ben Affleck) will be taking Superman (Henry Cavill) head on. There is a new threat, Doomsday, so it’s up to them to set aside their differences in order to stop it. This film will be no different from the others in terms of action-packed and thrilling scenes.
5. “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” (March 25)
If you saw the original movie in 2002, then seeing this is a no-brainer. It will star the entire original cast alongside Academy Award nominee and film writer Nia Vardalos. The sequel is based on a family secret that brings everyone back together for a – get this – even bigger wedding.
