Speaking at the Davos World Economic Forum in Switzerland, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick revealed that the company expects to release a new game called “DJ Hero” later this year.
Following in the footsteps of “Guitar Hero,” Activision’s billion-dollar franchise in which players use a make-shift guitar to rock out to various songs, “DJ Hero” will provide a turntable that you can play competitively, spin discs and mix on.
While refraining from discussing price or platform, Kotick noted his confidence in this type of game, saying that the “physical interface is starting to have a real impact on the consumer.”
For gamers worried that the recent recession might force beloved franchises into limbo as studios close their doors, Kotick offered assurance about Activision’s position. “We’re sitting on $3 billion in cash and no debt. We’ve been fortunate not to have to access the credit markets,” Said Kotick.
Activision is a worldwide publisher and developer of video games. The company’s portfolio includes “Tony Hawk,” “World of Warcraft,” and more.
More information about “DJ Hero” should become available as 2009 progresses.
