The SMU men’s soccer team went 1-1 after hosting the annual SMU invitational this weekend.
SMU lost 1-0 to Missouri State Friday night in the invitational home opener. The only goal of the game came early from Missouri State forward Jack Wood.
SMU was able to take nine shots on the Bears’ goal, but came up short.
The Mustangs won 3-1 against Stony Brook Sunday night with two goals coming from junior Idrissa Camara and one from sophomore Stanton Garcia.
Camara’s first goal came only two minutes into the game after a pass from Abdul Yassine and his second came in the second half set up by a pass from Muaro Cichero. Garcia scored his second goal of the season in the 65th minute of play, ensuring the Mustangs’ victory.
“We were able to generate more entries into the box tonight,” said Men’s Soccer Head Coach Tim McClements to SMUMustangs.com after the win. “Guys were hungry to get on the end of it.”
The win and loss put the men’s soccer team at 2-3-0 for the season. The team plays Oral Roberts next on the Hilltop Friday Sept. 19.
