Well, finals week is upon us. This is the time we have to think about the amazing school year we are leaving behind while taking along the memories that will last forever.
Moving out of the dorms can be bittersweet, yet incredibly stressful. You are going to want to make sure that you pack everything perfectly in a timely manner so that you are not distracted while studying for your finals.
First, you should arrange to store the things that you know you will need next semester. Whether you choose to use Mustang Storage or rent a personal storage locker, you need to get that taken care of ASAP. Last year, I chose to store all of my paintings, mirror, drawers, and shelves with Mustang Storage. All I had to do was choose what size boxes I want and buy packing supplies. They picked up my boxes from me whenever I wanted. The convenient part about Mustang Storage is that they do all the heavy lifting for you, and even deliver your boxes to you when you move in next semester. Renting out a storage unit tends to be a cheaper alternative, but you will be responsible for taking your stuff to and from the storage unit.
Next, you should pack up your clothes in a way that will make sense for you to unpack. I always place my winter clothes together, then my summer clothes in a separate suitcase, and then separate my shoes, accessories and other items. Packing up your clothes is one of the most tedious things to do, so you will want to be efficient about this and get this out of the way as soon as possible.
You should also be prepared to examine all of your belongings to get rid of random items you do not want anymore or are not in the best condition. There will be two donation trucks near the dorms, so feel free to drop off any clothes or furniture items that you do not want anymore. Even though it may appear to be in bad condition, something you donate will help out a family in need.
Once you have everything packed and ready to go, and your room is clean, the last thing to do is to say goodbye to your friends. You most likely will not see them for most of the summer, so make sure you take the time to hang out with them and revisit some of your favorite restaurants or spots in Dallas. You will be back before you know it!
