On October 20, 2019 10 tornadoes tore through North Texas damaging and destroying homes and buildings.
First Mexican Baptist Church was one of the buildings that was hit.
“Behind me you can see where the front of the church used to stand and now this is all that’s left,” said SMU TV Reporter Giovanna Hnath.
“It was very devastating to see how the church was destructed, I think God chose us to go through this to test our faith so that we can show the community how amazing he is at the end and how rebuilding the church has made us more united as a church and more faithful within him,” said member Brenda Jaime.
Although right now is a difficult time for the members of First Mexican Baptist, many of them are feeling blessed.
“I feel fortunate, grateful because I have life in this moment… Not only was this temple hurt, so was my house,” said member Jesus Gonzalez.
“I met Christ here so it was very hard and difficult, but now that I can see everything, we are improving and we know God is with us,” said member Martha Hernandez.
“It’s very sad what happened to our church…but it’s God’s decision and we await a better future…our Father has better plans for First Mexican Baptist Church,” said member Julia Aguilar.
First Baptist hopes to share a message through what has happened to their church building.
“In adversity we can tell others that our faith of course was tested and of course but like I said before, our faith has not been taken,” said Pastor Ricardo Brambila.
They hope to start rebuilding within the next two months.
