Women’s basketball advances to finals in tournament

The SMU Women’s Basketball won 75-63 over Cal State Fullerton Friday night in the annual Hoops for the Cure Tournament at Moody Coliseum.

The Titans took the lead early in Friday’s game 7-2, but the Mustangs answered with 14-0 run over the next four minutes to lead the game. The Mustangs were never seen trailing again shooting over 50 percent from the field while holding the Titans down less than 40 percent.

SMU’s Kristin Hernandez shot a season-high 14 points, while Alisha Filmore and Akil Simpson both added 10 points to the board. Filmore topped that off with eight rebounds. Cal State Fullerton’s Megan Richardson led the Titians with 20 points.

SMU will face Fresno State in the championship tournament today at 7 p.m.
