Junior Alexandra Dillard was told that she would not be able totake any advertising classes until her senior year because theclasses she needs are full.
“I was hoping to finish my advertising minor by thisspring, but it looks like I am going to have to take other classesuntil the ones I want are available,” Dillard said.
With this semester coming to a close, students should beregistered for the spring semester. However, some students likeDillard, have not registered due to unavailable classes or accountholds.
Senior Cassie Kovacevich, who experienced similar problemsalthough she register early, said, “I am graduating thisspring and was unable to take a class that I really wanted before Ileave.”
Another problem students encounter when they are trying toregister are financial account holds. Holds that can be removedfrom an account include tuition, parking tickets, library fines andunpaid bookstore charges.
Financial holds can also be taken care of via the Internet onAccess.
While some students experienced difficulty, others registeredwith ease.
Amelita Moorman, a junior history major, was able to registerfor all of the classes she needed. Moorman, also said that whileshe has been at SMU she has never had a problem withregistration.
To avoid problems in the future, students are advised to checkAccess as well as their SMU e-mail accounts regularly to avoid anoverdue balance that eventually turns into a hold.
Cheryl Moore, assistant registrar, said an “SMU e-mailaccount is the official university communication between enrollmentservices and the student.”
If students encounter problems with holds or need financialassistance, they are encouraged to visit room 101A in the newBlanton building where the enrollment services help desk islocated.
The last day to register for the spring semester is Jan. 16.
