The Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports is gearing up to host the fourth annual Pony Pulldown Climbing Competition & Reel Rock Film Tour on Saturday.
The day will begin when members of the Collegiate Climbing Series from all over the area assemble at SMU’s climbing wall. Climbers will be divided into a men and women’s division based on skill levels. They will compete in a variety of events including a speed and dyno elimination round.
The first session of climbing will begin at 8:30 a.m., with a second round starting at 12:30 p.m. Awards will be given at 5 p.m.
Registration is $25, but sign up soon because the available openings are going quick.
Beginning later that night at 7 p.m., the Reel Rock Film Tour will make a stop at the Dedman Center to showcase a variety of some of the best new climbing films from around the world.
The film tour takes viewers through images of climbers experiencing next-to-impossible climbs, ice-covered alpine walls and scary highball boulder problems.
The tour will show thrilling new short films as well as the award winners of the Reel Rock Film competition. The program includes gear giveaways, appearances by top climbers and fundraising for local and national non-profit organizations.
Tickets for the tour are offered at a discounted price of $5 to SMU students, faculty and staff and $8 for all others prior to the event. They will be sold for $10 at the door, but the seating is limited.
