Following their 1-0 victory over Houston Thursday night, the SMU women’s soccer team is AAC Tournament-bound.
Freshman Hannah Allred secured the win with her goal within the first 10 minutes of play. The eventual game-winner was Allred’s fourth goal of the season.
The SMU offense was explosive in the first half, recording over 15 total shots, seven on goal. On the defensive side, SMU only allowed one shot on goal throughout the entire game.
“We started the game really well,” head coach Chris Petrucelli said. “We were up for it. The nerves weren’t a factor.”
Now SMU is headed to Florida to compete in the AAC Tournament for the second consecutive year. Last year, the Mustangs finished as runner-up after losing 1-0 to Connecticut.
This year, No. 6-seed SMU will kick off tournament play against No. 3-seed Cincinnati Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. The winner of that match will continue on to face No. 2 USF on Friday, Nov. 3 at 3:30 p.m. The Championship game will take place Sunday at 1 p.m.
