Men’s soccer moves on after defeating Georgetown

It took two overtimes, but No. 10 SMU men’s soccer team defeated No. 11 Georgetown 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA tournament Sunday at Shaw Field in Washington D.C.

The Mustangs won in the 109th minute on an own goal after a Georgetown player deflected in a shot from Emil Cuello.

SMU trailed for the majority of the game after Georgetown scored in the 17th minute. They tied the the game when Jordan Cano’s header found the back of the net off of a pass from Nicky Hernandez in the 81st minute.

This is the second time in three seasons that SMU was among the final 16 teams in the NCAA tournament. The Mustangs will face third-seeded North Carolina next Saturday, Nov. 25, at 5 p.m. CT in Cary, NC.
