The Kappa Delta Chi Sorority hopes to unite the SMU community today by hosting a 9/11 commemorative ceremony. This year marks the sixth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks.
“It’s not your typical sorority event,” said Elsa Romero, Kappa Delta Chi treasurer and council delegate. “It’s a gathering to show that we still care and will continue to pray for the victims.”
The ceremony will be held in the Hughes-Trigg Commons from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. According to Romero, red, white and blue ribbons will be distributed. A prayer service will follow at 1 p.m. led by Melissa Caruth, Kappa Delta Chi Advisor.
The sorority plans to become a regular host of the ceremony.
“I think it is still important for us to remember this day,” Romero said. “It’s a scar on America.”
