This weekend the Student Foundation will host a series ofvarious activities for students and their families.
The programs are set to begin Friday morning and run untilSunday evening at 6 p.m.
With a wide range of events, this weekend is sure to sparkeveryone’s individual interests, whether it be an unusualscientific experiment or an interesting lecture.
The activities will start at 10 a.m. on Friday with studenteducational sessions in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center followed bya family luncheon, co-sponsored by the SMU Mother’s club.
The excitement will jump from the student center to FondrenScience Building with “Physics Circus: The Greatest Show onEarth.”
Dr. Fred Olness will present fun science tricks, like using afire extinguisher to power a cart across the room.
If you don’t give way to a mid-day nap, head over to FordStadium for a behind-the-scenes tour at 2:30 p.m.
Ending Friday’s ceremonies, numerous organizations,including most fraternities and sororities, will try to wow andhumor all with their uncanny skills in the annual Family WeekendTalent show in McFarlin Auditorium.
The festivities carry on at 2 p.m. on Saturday with a MeadowsMuseum tour. The museum, which has the largest collection ofSpanish art outside of Spain, contains the works of El Greco, Goyaand Picasso.
At 3:15 p.m., Jasper Neel, the dean of Dedman College willpresent a lecture, “The Role of Science in the Private,Research University,” in McCord Auditorium in DallasHall.
Immediately following the lecture, come quell yourstomach’s rumblings with some good eats and beverages at acook out co-sponsored by the SMU Dad’s Club at 4 p.m.
The cook out will be located east of the flagpole and south ofClements Hall.
At 6 p.m. “Spirit and Traditions,” featuring theMustang band and cheerleaders, will prepare rowdy Mustangs of allages for the battle against the UTEP Miners at 7 p.m. in Gerald J.Ford Stadium.
On Sunday, Hillel’s Bagel Brunch will be held at 10 a.m.,as well as the College Hispanic American Students family luncheonat noon.
Rounding out the weekend’s events, the Asian CouncilParents’ dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the student centerballroom.
All events are free except for the meals, the talent show, andfootball tickets for non-students.
Although the Friday afternoon luncheon is already sold out,tickets for the barbeque and talent show are still available.

In comparison with previous Family Weekends, Heather Mattick,the 2003 Family Weekend chairwoman, said this year’s will bethe biggest yet.
“We have a lot more people this year than in thepast,” Mattick said. “And we hope the popularity ofFamily Weekend will continue to grow in the years tocome.”
This year over 600 families are registered to attend.
Courtyard by Marriot, the Hilton of Dallas/Park Cities, AmericanAirlines and Delta Airlines are sponsoring this weekend’sevents.
