Homecoming began this year with the annual Student Kick-offParty. Student organizations, the Mustang Band, cheerleaders, thepom squad and a slew of students rallied together to select thehomecoming royalty and jump-start the weekend with music, jokes andplenty of loud fun.
This year, several hundred students appeared on the grounds infront of Dallas Hall north of the fountain instead of in front ofHughes-Trigg, which has traditionally been where the studentsgathered for this event.
“Why waste a backdrop this gorgeous?” said KatherineHengar, chairwoman of the kick-off party committee.
“It’s a beautiful night. This is a central locationfor everyone. I don’t know why it has never been held herebefore instead of off of some side street somewhere,” shesaid.
Students cheered and danced in celebration of the season.
“This is a great bunch of students,” saidThomas Hardy, the assistant director of Student Activities.
“Everyone has been well behaved but [has] still been ableto enjoy themselves.
