Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.
Oklahoma plays Texas, in Dallas, for the inside track to the Big12 title and possibly the National Championship.
Sooners coach Bob Stoops grossly out-coaches the head man forthe Longhorns, Mack Brown.
OU pummels Texas.
This scenario has become so commonplace that the question fanswill be asking next year will not be, who is going to win, butrather, how much is Oklahoma going to win by.
65-13. Are you kidding me?
They should change the name of the game from the Red RiverShootout to the Red River Blowout.
Texas’ problem is so glaringly obvious that even StevieWonder could see it.
Mack Brown is terrible.
Fire Him!
He will never beat Bob Stoops.
Never.
Brown has now lost seven games in a row to top 10 teams. How canTexas fans expect to compete for a national title, if theycan’t even knock off decent teams?
However, fans need not worry because apparently Brown diagnosedthe problem after the game.
“We had a great week’s practice. I don’t knowwhat happened. I’m clueless.”
Hey Mack, I’ll tell you what happened: you gotout-coached, out-classed, and your five-star recruits got theirbutts kicked by an Oklahoma team that wanted it more.
You are clueless.
In fact, Brown’s effort was so pathetic that it hasinspired Longhorn fans in launching FireMackBrown.com.
Apparently, they got the idea from Florida, who startedFireRonZook.com, the day after he got hired.
If you check out the Web site devoted to Brown’s demise, you can read all his horrendous statistics, as well as sign up fora message board with other angry UT fans who rip him to shreds.
The apparel for sale is pretty snazzy too; you can buyFireMackBrown.com T-shirts for only $12 plus shipping andhandling.
Brown’s apologists argue that he should stay because ofhis knack for recruiting stars.
I don’t think so.
Oklahoma has been raiding Texas for athletes ever since Stoopsarrived. In fact, 10 OU starters in last Saturday’s game werehighly touted Texas preps.
How did these studs elude the master recruiter?
Mack, give it up, you’re done. Just go in peace and takeyour firing like a man.
If you can’t, maybe you can recruit someone to do it foryou.
Big games this weekend
USC at Notre Dame
USC’s Keys to Victory
Offensive coordinator Norm Chow appears to have his unitclicking on all cylinders as they have scored 178 points in theirlast four games. This does not bode well for the Irish.
Look for the Trojans to air it out early and often as to exposeNotre Dame’s lack of team speed. Sophomore quarterback MattLeinart will try to find All-American wideout Mike Williamsthroughout the day; the two have already hooked up 39 times forseven touchdowns.
If the Trojans pass the ball effectively, they will win and winbig.
Notre Dame’s Keys to Victory
The Irish are fresh off a huge upset win at Pittsburgh in whichrunning back Julius Jones broke the school’s single gamerushing record with 262 yards. Look for the Irish to try and domore of the same.
The only chance Notre Dame stands is controlling the ball byrunning effectively and chewing the clock. The high octane USCoffense can’t score if it is not on the field.
The longer the Irish keep the game close, the more the crowdwill start to become a factor.
However, Norm Chow’s precision passing game will be toomuch to overcome.
Prediction: USC wins 31-10.
Texas Tech at Oklahoma State
Texas Tech’s Keys to Victory
The offense starts and ends with quarterback B.J. Symons, whohas been ridiculous so far this season. He has postedPlaystation-type stats: 2,954 yards and 27 touchdowns in only sixgames.
However, he is a little banged up after spraining his left kneelast week while celebrating a touchdown pass to receiver Wes Walker(you would think he wouldn’t jump up and down anymore;he’s already thrown 27 of them).
Symons will have to be healthy if Tech expects to go in toStillwater and leave victorious; 500 yards passing and fivetouchdowns will be necessary.
Oklahoma State’s Keys to Victory
Every SMU student knows how dangerous this offense is; we allsaw Rashaun Woods catch seven touchdowns against the Ponies.
This unit, however, is more than just Woods. It is lead by anoutstanding quarterback in Josh Fields and a great runner in TatumBell.
There will be points to score as the Tech defense is allowingover 30 per game.
This contest is bound to be a good old-fashioned shootout, butMike Leach’s Red Raiders are a little too powerful.
Prediction: Texas Tech wins 59-55.
Notes
Florida is coming off a big win against sixth ranked LSU inDeath Valley. Look for the Gators to carry that same momentum intoFayetteville this weekend as they take on the 11th-ranked ArkansasRazorbacks. Led by true freshman quarterback Chris Leak, the Gatorslook poised to pull off another upset.
Oklahoma needed a late touchdown to beat Missouri last year asTiger signal caller Brad Smith put on a show. Most teams would beprimed for a let down game, after beating their arch rival so badthe previous week, but not a Bob Stoops coached team. Oklahoma willwin easily.
