It’s the Wednesday before Thanksgiving — perhaps theonly day of the academic year that choice parking spaces are leftto be had by those of you rolling onto campus at noon. And whileyou’re trudging to class, each footstep echoing on theGeorgian buildings, watch out for the tumbleweeds.
On the day before Turkey Day and the Monday after Easter, thereare more empty classroom seats than filled ones. And while manyprofessors cancel classes, those students unlucky enough to stillbe required to show up may be wondering why.
With increased travelers taking to the streets and congestingthe airports, getting to and from Dallas may take longer thanusual. Students with long trips home are often forced into thechoice of missing class days or cutting short the holiday at homewith their families.
The Student Senate passed legislation earlier this semesterrecommending that the Faculty Senate, the body that sets theacademic calendar every year, cut these days from future calendars.While the faculty members were open to hearing the senator’sideas, a decision won’t be made until the body votes on thecalendar.
