Fall is quickly approaching, which means it’s time for my personal picks for what will be hot (and not) for the entire season. As always, you may not agree with what I have to say, but frankly, I don’t care.
Here they are from left to right, top to bottom:
HOT: Women’s wear inspired by men’s wear: a stark white, French cuff, long sleeve, button-down shirtdress, paired with a strapless, wool mini-dress with faux cummerbund detail NOT: Last year’s old velour jogging suits – they are not practical for working out at the gym. Really, what would make someone think that they are even fashionable at all?
HOT: Heavy-duty leather belts with oversized, metallic logos: They have always been a staple in high fashion, but this fall they are at the top of my list. NOT: Fabric belts that must be cinched; those were only cool when we were in junior high.
HOT: Reasonably sized designer totes as book bags (I did not say big enough to carry a small child) NOT: Nasty, old backpacks that you’ve had since you were 15…I only wear mine as a last resort, such as when you have tennis elbow from carrying too much.
HOT: Jeans that fit just right without looking like they were painted on. Girls’ jeans are for girls, and shouldn’t be worn otherwise! My favorites for fall are J. Lindberg skinny jeans, Chip & Pepper dark wash and anything Meltin’ Pot. NOT: Ill-fitting, flat wash, ’90s-style jeans; if you can’t wear them without a belt, they are too loose.
HOT: Big sunglasses made with a single lens and gold accents. Pictured here: Gucci gold-framed faux-aviators and Tom Ford’s “Ryan” glasses. NOT: small, square frames – particularly those with colored lenses.
HOT: Vintage t-shirts with embroidery detail, especially if they appear to be worn. NOT: super tight, monotone shirts. Again, no one wants to see that much of you.
HOT: Riding or motorcycle boots. Although these are flats, there are plenty of hot pairs of stilettos and wedges for petite women. NOT: Ugg boots, enough said. Please don’t make me write about these foul things again.
HOT: Silk headscarves: Bright and vibrant prints can breathe life into what might otherwise be a drab outfit. NOT: Trucker hats – unless you have a beer belly and pit-stains, you have no business wearing these.
HOT: Oversized clutches, for day and night- every major label is showing them and they are available to everyone, from the Neiman Marcus shopper to the bargain huntress. NOT: miniature pouchettes with uber logos, ones too small to fit even a large cell phone, but showy enough to highlight a complete lack of taste.
Fashion is truly an ever-evolving industry. If you don’t keep up you will be left behind, and no one wants to be on my list of what not to wear.
