Senate seeks extra university holidays

Student Senate voted unanimously to open a dialogue between thebody and Faculty Senate about extending the university holidaysaround Easter and Thanksgiving during its meeting Tuesday.

Specifically, the Senate would like to amend the officialuniversity calendar starting next year to make the Wednesday beforeThanksgiving and the Monday after Easter university holidaysallowing students more time for travel.

The Faculty Senate plans the university calendar for the year.While the Student Senate has no power to amend that calendar,Student Body President Thomas Kincaid is hopeful that the dialoguebetween the two bodies will result in the desired changes.

In other business, the body voted to appropriate $1,000 to AsianCouncil for their parent’s dinner during Family Weekend. Themoney will go to purchasing food from a variety of Asiancultures.

“[Some of the parents] can’t go to other events thisweekend [like the barbecue] because of certain dietaryneeds,” Asian American Senator Liz Nguyen said.

The event, which is open to all students and their family, willalso feature an Asian fashion show.
