p>SMU alum Cary Pierce makes his way back to the Hilltop Oct. 20 as one half of the Homecoming Concert.
Opening act Pierce will be joined on the McFarlin Auditorium stage by Cowboy Mouth for a three-hour block of Southern rock and alternative pop music.
Pierce’s acoustic set will feature songs from his major-label solo efforts, You Are Here and foreverything volumes one and two.
Formerly one-half of Jackopierce, Pierce has since produced his own albums as well as those by Jack Ingram, Jay Quinn Band and former SMU student Graham Colton.
Nationally-known alternative rockers Cowboy Mouth derived their name from the title of an early theatrical piece by Sam Shepard and Patti Smith. In the play, one character tries to convince another that he could be the next messiah.
Even though drummer/frontman Fred LeBlanc and second guitarist Paul Sanchez write most of the songs, the band didn’t gain national attention until bassist Rob Savoy completed the foursome in 1993. Cowboy Mouth’s last album, Easy, came out in 2000.
Doors open at 7 p.m. for the Homecoming Concert at McFarlin Auditorium. Student tickets are $8 in advance at the Mane Desk in Hughes-Trigg or $10 at the door the night of the concert.
Organizers suggest that you buy tickets early as the seats must be purchased together to ensure that you get to sit with your friends.
The general public can purchase tickets for $15 at any Star Tickets location.
