The Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas provides inpatient, outpatient and partial hospitalization services for patients suffering from an eating disorder. Treatment options include individual or group therapy, therapeutic meals, relapse prevention, nutritional counseling, and aftercare support amongst others.
Also in Dallas are the Bourland Mental Health Center and the Timberlawn Mental Health System, both exclusively offering outpatient treatment. Bourland begins by conducting an eating disorder evaluation to determine whether inpatient or outpatient treatment is necessary. In the case of an individual needing inpatient treatment, the center can refer the patient to centers which offer the necessary treatment. For outpatients, Bourland provides an adult eating disorders group meeting on Tuesday evenings for an hour and a half at $40 per session. Individual therapy is offered at $75 for a 50-minute session.
At SMU the Health Center’s Counseling Department is available to all students as well, offering 12 free counseling sessions.
For those who may not feel comfortable in a therapy session or is unsure of whether or not they have an eating disorder, the Eating Disorders Anonymous Web site offers locations of meetings in your area as well as discussion areas and literature on eating disorders.
