The Muslim Student Association, partnered with the Office of the Chaplain and Religious Life and the Embrey Human Rights Program, will host a community vigil for victims of the New Zealand mosque shootings.

“Everyone is comfortable to speak out in a place they call home,” MSA Treasurer Ahmed Muhammad said. “And holding a community vigil to express our concerns is a way to both establish a sense of home for Muslim minorities, and have the larger population at SMU share the pain of this tragedy.”

The vigil is in memoriam of the lives lost earlier this month after an Australian gunman opened fire on worshippers in two New Zealand mosques.

The hour-long vigil will take place on the Dallas Hall lawn at 5 p.m. Monday, March 25. President Turner and Vice President Mmeje will be keynote speakers for the event. Members of the SMU community are welcome to attend and join together to commemorate the victims of the New Zealand mosque shootings.
